Your pelvic floor is the wall of muscles between your tailbone, sits bones, and pubic bone. The pelvic floor has diverse functions from maintaining the abdominal pressure needed to lift heavy weights, to coordinating hip and abdominal muscle activity, to controlling bladder and bowel function. Pelvic floor issues are also common factors in poor posture, low back pain, and pelvic pain. Both men and women can be affected by pelvic floor pain or dysfunction. Common causes are postural and breathing habits, poor training strategies, surgical complications from the low back or pelvis, and pregnancy. Our physicians will determine the cause of pelvic floor dysfunction and create a plan for you that focuses on home exercises, postural changes, strengthening, and relaxation techniques.
