Disc Herniations and bulging are common imaging findings for patients that get an MRI for a painful condition. There are some individual that have disc herniations and bulges that never experience symptoms from them, and there are others who feel quite debilitated. If you have a disc bulge or herniation, our physicians will examine function of your spinal cord, nerve roots, peripheral nerves, and muscular strength. We will also determine if the disc herniation is a mechanical space-occupying issue or a chemical inflammatory issue. This helps us determine what type of treatment will be most effective for you. Under most circumstances, patients can overcome disc herniations and bulges using non-invasive methods at Cornerstone Health. In some cases we identify a presentation that requires surgical consultation and these referrals are made accordingly. It is important to start with a good exam to determine the level of herniation and what steps are needed to recover.
