Dr. Barbie Allegretti Shares With Us What Excites Her About Functional Medicine!
Dr. Barbie. What excites you about functional medicine?
– So what excites me about functional medicine? I’ve been practicing functional medicine for the last five years. I’ve been a chiropractic physician for longer than that, and functional medicine has significantly improved my own life, and the life of my family and my children. I’ve been in health and fitness since I was in college, and have been in the fitness community with my husband for the last 15 years, and I have two daughters, a five-year-old and a three-month-old, so it’s very, very important to me to be able to provide them, and for me to have the knowledge to provide them with every opportunity that they might want for their health, and I carry that same want through to my patients in supporting them. So it’s important to me. It’s made a huge impact and change in my own life. I used to, about 10 years ago, walk around with daily, consistent pain and came to learn that it was food-related, wasn’t any kind of allergy; I wasn’t allergic to anything, but I had significant sensitivities to certain foods, and it opened up the doors for me to this new way of medicine and functional medicine and has allowed me to be able to pass that on to others.
How has functional medicine helped your family?
I strongly believe that education is important. I also believe that experience is just as important. I have experience with my health and how I’ve implemented functional medicine. I’ve supported my husband and his health with functional medicine, and I have young children that I’ve supported.
It’s particularly important to me with children because more and more there’s an increase in chronic disease among kids, and it’s even been studied that this generation may be the first to not outlive their parents, and a lot of the issues that are contributing to that are preventable, and they are environmental. So many things are not within our control, but many things are within our control, and so I’ve considered it a personal purpose of mine to get that education for myself, but then also to pass it on and educate others so that they can impact their households, and families and children in the generations to come.
How can I get more information on functional medicine?
So I’m very excited to be able to partner with Dr. Ben and Cornerstone Clinics in incorporating functional medicine and holistic medicine, and we are offering 15-minute complimentary consultations, so you can schedule at the front desk, you can call in, and we’ll be able to set that up.
We’ll meet in person either the office, or we’ll meet via videoconference as well, and during that time I’ll answer any questions that you have if you need to learn a little bit more about functional medicine and see if it’s for you, and also just to get to know each other a little bit and see if we’re a good fit for each other moving forward.
